Swords/Hammers
Kokiri Sword: This is the only sword usable as a kid, and as such it is young Link's standard weapon. You need this, along with a Shield, to enter the Great Deku Tree (The first Dungeon). You can not use it this as an adult.

The Master Sword: The Master Sword is the key to Link traveling in time. It is also known as the sword of evil's bane. Link can only wield this sword as an adult since he can only travel back in time to his childhood by setting it back in the pedestal he drew it from.

The Biggoron's Sword: A giant sword of incredible power created by Biggoron on Death's Mountain.
See Trading for the Biggoron Sword for how to get the sword.

Megaton Hammer: An ancient Goron hammer found in the Fire Temple, it was used to slay Volvagia long ago. It has immense swinging power and can hit any enemy, and smash down rusted switches.

Tunics

Kokiri Tunic: A green tunic that seems to grow along with Link when he travels through time. This tunic has no effect on Link's stats. The Green tunic cannot be swallowed by Lik-Liks, unlike the other tunics (since you cannot buy a replacement Green Tunic.

Red Tunic: The Red Tunic allows link to withstand extreme heat (Like that of the Death Mountain Crater) and walk in shallow lava for a bit before he takes damage. It can only be worn by adult link.

Blue Tunic: A tunic made entirely of Zora scales, the Blue Tunic allows link to breathe underwater forever. It can only be worn by adult link.

Boots

Kokiri Boots: A standard pair of boots Link owns. When Link ages in the Chamber of Sages, they grow with him (strangely enough)...

Iron Boots: A heavy pair of iron-shod boots found in the Ice Cave (after Link defeats the White Wolfos). They allow Link to sink to the bottom of lakes and other bodies of water.

Hover Boots: These magical boots, found in the Shadow Temple, allow you to hover in open air for a brief time. You can use them to cross short distances of open space.

Shields

Kokiri Shield: A wooden shield that burns easily in fire. Link needs this to enter the Great Deku Tree. It reflects octorok rocks and Deku Scrubs' deku nuts. It can not be used as an adult.

Hylian Shield: The iron Hylian Shield will not burn and is very big compaired to young Link's body size, and when young Link wears it it covers his entire back. As an adult it bounces back deku nuts and other enemy projectiles just like the Deku Shield does for kid Link. It is the standard shield of the Hylian Army.

Mirror Shield: Found in the Spirit Temple, this ancient shield has the power to bounce back both projectiles and magic. It can only be worn by adult Link. IT cannot be swallowed by Lik-Liks because you cannot buy a replacement.
